ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University women’s tennis team has been selected to participate in the NCAA Division III West Region postseason tournament for the second straight year. The Panthers will face the University of Texas-Tyler on Friday, May 2 in the first round of the regional playoffs, hosted by Pomona-Pitzer Colleges in Claremont. Chapman (12-6) has enjoyed its most successful season since 2001 when the Panthers posted an overall record of 14-5 and reached the NCAA postseason for the first time. Chapman is ranked No. 24 in Division III and is making its third berth in the regional tournament, where the Panthers are 0-2. UT-Tyler (17-3) is currently ranked No. 28 in the nation. Youth has played a big factor in the Panthers’ success this season. Chapman is led by the freshmen trio of Liz Lewis (19-5 in singles), Kelley Fox (16-7) and Sheehan Trippel (11-11). Lewis and Fox have also posted a 14-8 mark in doubles play. Junior Roxanne Kaiden enters the postseason ranked third on the team in singles wins with a record of 13-9, playing primarily as the No. 4 seed. She and doubles partner Laura Robinson have gone 12-7 this year, as well. The Panthers finished the regular season winning five of their final seven matches, but are 0-2 against the rest of the West Region field with losses to Redlands and U.C. Santa Cruz. Host Pomona-Pitzer has earned a first-round bye and will face the winner of Chapman/UT-Tyler on Saturday, May 3.
