THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – The Chapman University women’s tennis team claimed a 9-0 victory on the road over host Cal Lutheran University on Friday. The Panthers then finished the regular season on the road in Santa Cruz, suffering an 8-1 loss to the Banana Slugs. Nevertheless, with an overall record of 12-6, the Chapman women completed their most successful season since 2001 when the team went 14-4. Against Cal Lutheran, the Panthers swept the doubles bracket led by an 8-4 victory for No. 1-seeded freshmen pair Liz Lewis and Kelley Fox. Chapman completed the shutout in singles play, all in straight sets wins. No. 1 seed Lewis earned a 6-2, 6-0 over Suz Nomura to capture her sixth straight singles win. Fellow freshman Fox also earned her sixth victory in a row with a 6-0, 6-1 win. Against U.C. Santa Cruz on Saturday, it was a battle between two top-25 teams that the Slugs won solidly. Chapman’s lone win came from junior Roxanne Kaiden, who won in three sets 7-5, 3-6, (10-3) to win her third straight.
