ORANGE, Calif. – U.C. Santa Cruz scored twice in a span of nine minutes in the second half to defeat host Chapman University in women’s soccer on Friday night at Wilson Field. The Banana Slugs, who entered the match ranked No. 4 in the West Region, swept the two-game season series with Division III independent-rival Chapman (7-7-2). U.C. Santa Cruz (9-2-2) snapped a scoreless tie at 64:05 on a goal from Kira Ticus which gave the Slugs a 1-0 lead. Less than nine minutes later, Jacki Blaugrund scored an insurance goal for Santa Cruz. The win improves the Banana Slugs unbeaten streak to eight straight games (7-0-1). Chapman fell below .500 at home for the first time since the second game of the season with a 4-5-2 record at Wilson Field this year. Panthers’ junior GK Madison Coffin made nine saves in defeat. Meanwhile, senior GK Katie Loomis made one save for the shutout. Santa Cruz out-shot the Panthers 20-4 in the game. Game stats available online: |
