PANTHERS DIAL LONG DISTANCE TO UPEND OCCIDENTAL

ORANGE, Calif. –  The Chapman University women’s soccer team snapped a two-game home losing streak by defeating visiting Occidental College 2-0 at Wilson Field on Wednesday. Both Panthers’ goals came from more than 20-yards out in a big second half for Chapman.

Junior M Brittany Botterill opened the second half by scoring her second goal of the season in the 54th minute of the play, from well-beyond the 18-yard box to give Chapman (6-5-2) a 1-0 lead. Sophomore D Miranda Loflin then scored an insurance goal for the Panthers at 82:33. Loflin’s first goal of the season came on a backwards pass from sophomore M Stephanie Lambrakis on a shot taken from about 25 yards out.

The Panthers out-shot Occidental 10-2 during their second half surge. Tigers’ GK Melissa Warner made six saves in defeat.

Junior GK Madison Coffin made one save in goal to earn her team-leading second shutout of the season for Chapman. The win snapped a three-game winning streak for Occidental (7-3).
