FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
ORANGE, Calif. – So much for momentum. All signs pointed toward a positive outcome for the Chapman University women’s soccer team on Saturday morning. But as the morning turned to afternoon, a late goal by Pomona-Pitzer’s Jenny Medvene-Collins gave the visiting Sagehens a 2-1 win over Chapman at Wilson Field. Chapman (5-4-2) entered the game unbeaten in its past three home matches, while Pomona-Pitzer (4-3-2) had won just one of its past six games. Add to that the Panthers’ 8-0 win over Whittier on Wednesday and Chapman appeared to be in the driver’s seat. Following a scoreless first half, the Panthers got on the board just eight minutes into the second half when freshman F Alicia Fraticelli picked up a loose ball rebound in the goalie box and scored. The goal was Fraticelli’s team-leading sixth of the season. However, Pomona answered less than two minutes later when Katie Kerr found the back of the net to tie the game 1-1. Then with less than three minutes left in regulation, Sagehens’ Elli Seo threaded a pass through the goalie box to Medvene-Collins for the game-winner at 87:33. The loss spoiled an otherwise solid match in goal by Chapman’s junior GK Brittni Marciano, who made seven saves as the Panthers were out-shot 13-8. It’s the third straight game Marciano has recorded at least seven saves. Game stats available online: |
