ORANGE, Calif. – Although it might be arguable, Allison O’Neill may have had the greatest half-hour of her life on Wednesday evening; most certainly the best 30 minutes of her soccer career. In that small amount of time, the junior forward scored four goals in the first half and turned a 1-0 Chapman lead into a 5-0 advantage. That helped the Panthers' women's soccer team to an 8-0 win over visiting Whittier College at Wilson Field. At the 12-minute mark of the first half and with the Panthers already up 1-0 on a goal by junior M Mia Pierro, O’Neill teamed with junior M Hannah Rogers for her first goal of the game. Awhile later the junior forward scored a pair of goals within three minutes of each other to round out the hat trick. And in the 42nd minute, for good measure, O’Neill scored her fourth goal of the half, giving Chapman (5-3-2) a five-goal lead at halftime. O’Neill’s 30-minute, four-goal outburst is unprecedented in Chapman’s Division III history. There have been five previous hat tricks in the Panthers’ women’s soccer history since 1995 with the last one coming in 2004 by Simi Phull. Chapman didn’t let up after the intermission. Full-time goalkeeper, part-time forward Brittni Marciano got in on the action with her first career goal less than three minutes into the second half. Meanwhile, freshman F Alicia Fraticelli scored the Panthers’ final two goals 18 minutes apart. Fraticelli also assisted on O’Neill’s final goal in the first half. Junior GK Emily Clark earned the shutout, making three saves in goal. The Panthers out-shot Whittier (0-8) 23-4 in the game. Game stats available online: |
