SECOND-HALF OUTBURST BOOSTS NO. 18 SANTA CRUZ OVER CHAPMAN

ORANGE, Calif. –  The U.C. Santa Cruz women’s soccer team rallied for three goals in the second half to snap a scoreless tie and defeat host Chapman University 3-0 at Wilson Field on Friday night. The No. 18-ranked Banana Slugs won for the third time in four matches and dropped Chapman below .500 for the first time in 10 days.

Freshman M Chloe Rose broke open a scoreless game in the 55th minute with a goal from the left side arching high and out of the reach of Panthers’ GK Madison Coffin for the game-winner. Coffin made five saves in defeat. Meanwhile, Slugs’ GK Elle Vermillion made eight saves en route to the shutout.

Sophomore Erica Wheeler-Dubin scored twice more 16 minutes apart to seal the victory for U.C. Santa Cruz (4-2-1).

For Chapman (4-5), it was the first home loss in three matches at Wilson Field.
