FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
ORANGE, Calif. – This was a match that was already highly anticipated; a women’s soccer game between two Division III rivals who have met several times in the postseason in recent years. Then it got even bigger when, earlier Tuesday, the national rankings came out and Chapman had climbed to No. 14 after having previously been unranked for nearly two years. Meanwhile, Redlands weighed in at No. 20 by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. The teams were also ranked Nos. 2 and 3 in the West Region. The only disappointment in a game with high expectations was that there was no winner, as the Chapman University and University of Redlands women’s soccer teams played to a 1-1 tie at Wilson Field on Tuesday evening. After a scoreless 80 minutes to begin play, Chapman (3-1-2) appeared as though it had scored the game-winner at 81:57 when sophomore F Claire Callister scored for the fourth consecutive game, just inside the left post on an assist from sophomore Stephanie Lambrakis. That lead lasted for less than a minute however. Redlands came right back and received a goal off the right side from Erica Jahn at 82:47; a near-impossible angle just out of the reach of Chapman’s junior GK Brittni Marciano. It was the first goal Chapman has allowed in over 350 minutes of play. Marciano finished the game with three saves, while her counterpart, Tenley Rawlings finished with two saves for Redlands (1-0-2). Game stats available online: |
