THIRD TIME’S A CHARM IN OVERTIME FOR CHAPMAN

ORANGE, Calif. –  Playing in overtime for the third time in its first four games this season, the Chapman University women’s soccer team finally netted a “bonus time” victory, 1-0 over visiting Haverford (Pa.) College at Wilson Field on Friday evening. Sophomore F Claire Callister scored the game-winner with just 13 second left in the first overtime period.

Chapman had tied and lost its previous two overtime games this season, but with the win improved to 2-1-1 overall. The game was played as part of the Bulldog/Athena Classic – a tournament co-hosted by University of Redlands and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges.

Callister’s game-winning goal was set up by a long pass from sophomore D Kim Grant on the left side of the field. Callister then dribbled the ball past Haverford goalkeeper Lindsay Festa and had a wide open look at the net. The goal was Callister’s second of the season.

In goal for Chapman, junior Brittni Marciano made four saves to earn her first shutout of the season and the third shutout overall by the Panthers’ defense. Festa made five saves in goal for Haverford, which fell to 1-2.
