ORANGE, Calif. – Chapman University’s men’s and women’s soccer teams are still seeking their first victories of the season after visiting Vanguard University swept a pair of games from the Panthers at Wilson Field on Monday. The Vanguard women needed overtime to defeat the Panthers 2-1 in the first game of the day. The nightcap featured a 2-0 Vanguard shutout over Chapman’s men. In the women’s game, Cassandra Rodeiro scored the game winner for the Lions at 91:08 on a penalty kick. Chapman (0-1-1) had earlier evened the game at 1-1 thanks to freshman M Alicia Fraticelli’s first career goal in the 64th minute of play. Both goalkeepers combined for 10 saves, including Chapman’s Brittni Marciano with four – all in the first half. The Panthers have played overtime in each of their first two games. The No. 12 NAIA-ranked Vanguard men’s team limited Chapman to just two shots, while scoring twice in the second half to shutout the Panthers 2-0. Chris Leiva and Jeff Cocca each scored goals as the Lions improved to 2-0 this season. Senior GK Josh Kaplan-Lyman made six saves in goal for Chapman (0-2). Chapman’s first two losses of the season have come at the hands of two top-12 nationally-ranked NAIA teams (No. 9 Concordia on Friday).
