ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University women’s basketball game won its fifth consecutive game and 18th straight at home, defeating visiting Cal Lutheran University 63-44 at Hutton Center on Wednesday night. For the first time this season, the Panthers’ held their opponents to just 30 percent shooting from the field and under 50 points. Chapman (5-1) built a double-digit lead in the first half and never trailed in the game. The Panthers led by as many as 24 points with 5:41 to go in the second half, thanks to a strong offensive performance from junior G Nikki Hayman who made 8-of-13 field goals and scored a game-high 20 points. Senior F Natasha Belou added 11 points for Chapman. Junior PG Lauren Kamiyama set a season-high with 11 assists, and added nine points and three steals. Nita Sims came off the bench for Cal Lutheran (1-2) to lead the Regals with 13 points, seven rebounds and three blocked shots. The win improved the Panthers to 23-2 in their past 25 games. Both losses came at the hands of Howard Payne (Texas), currently ranked No. 1 in Division III by the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association. Chapman’s average margin of victory this season is 19.0.
