ORANGE, Calif. – Panthers’ head coach Carol Jue has been preaching an ‘everyone contributes’ philosophy since Day 1 this season. On Saturday night, nearly everyone did contribute offensively as 11 different players scored a field goal for the Chapman University women’s basketball team, which defeated visiting Southwestern College (Ariz.) 87-57 at Hutton Center. Chapman (3-1) won its third straight game with an overwhelming team effort that included 35 points from the Panthers’ reserves, led by senior G Amelia Perez, who came off the bench and was a rebound shy of a double-double (16 points, nine rebounds). Junior G Nikki Hayman led Chapman with 17 points, as four players reached double-digits in scoring. Again, the Panthers’ defense made its opponent uneasy. Southwestern (2-5) committed 33 turnovers in the game, leading to 38 Chapman points. Junior G Lauren Kamiyama earned a team-high four steals for Chapman. The Panthers also out-rebounded the Eagles 40-28 in the game. Three players scored in double figures for the Eagles, led by Amy Wall’s 17 points, including three three-pointers. Joanna Underwood earned a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Underwood also nailed a trio of three-pointers for Southwestern. The victory extended Chapman’s home winning streak to 17 games, a school record.
