PANTHERS SMOTHER POMONA AS JUE NOTCHES 100TH VICTORY

ORANGE, Calif. – Chapman University’s Carol Jue earned her 100th head coaching victory on Tuesday night as the Panthers defeated visiting Pomona-Pitzer Colleges 75-54 at Hutton Center. Chapman (2-1) won its home opener and 16th straight victory at Hutton Center.

Chapman opened up the second half with a 19-5 run that broke open what had been a five-point halftime lead. The Panthers shot over 48 percent in the second half to win by 21. The Panthers capitalized on 52 Sagehens turnovers, many forced by a smothering Panther press that led to 22 steals. Chapman scored 42 points off turnovers.

Junior G Nikki Hayman led the Panthers with 15 points and seven steals. Sophomore G Linda Ly and freshman F Tara Glennon each added 10 points for Chapman. Junior G Lauren Kamiyama earned seven assists and six steals in just 16 minutes.

Pomona-Pitzer (0-3) was led by Deirdre Chew who scored 20 points. Anja Huges-Stinson scored 16 points, including four three-pointers, as the Sagehens lost their third straight to open the season.

Chapman’s Jue improved to 100-37 (.730) overall in five-plus seasons as a head coach (five at Chapman, one at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps). She is 85-27 (.759) in four-plus seasons at Chapman, including four straight NCAA tournament appearances.
