HAYMAN HEADLINES AS PANTHERS PLACE THREE ON ALL-INDEPENDENT TEAM

ORANGE, Calif. –  Chapman University junior Nikki Hayman helped lead the Panthers to their best season in 23 years and was rewarded by being named Player of the Year by the Association of Division III Independents. Hayman was joined by teammates Lauren Kamiyama and Linda Ly in a trio of Panthers named to the All-Independent team.

Hayman earned her second mention on the All-Independent team with her Player of the Year honors. She helped lead Chapman to school record for wins (24-4) and its eighth straight NCAA playoff appearance. Hayman led the Panthers in scoring with 15.6 points per game and moved into the top-10 on Chapman’s all-time scoring list with 983 career points. The junior also ranked second on the team with 3.9 rebounds per game.

Kamiyama also earned her second mention on the All-Independent team with her first team honors, averaging 9.3 points per game. The junior point guard set a school record by shooting 90.5 percent (57-for-63) from the free throw line this season. Kamiyama also moved up to second on Chapman’s all-time assists list with 307 career assists, averaging 4.6 assists per game.

Ly earned third team honors and her first mention on the All-Independent team. The sophomore guard averaged 10.3 points per game and was second on the team with 48 steals, moving her into the top-10 of Chapman’s all-time steals list. Ly also earned honorable mention on the All-Independent team for volleyball last fall.

The Association of Division III Independents consists of 25 Division III independent institutions that have joined together to recognize student-athletes at independent institutions, and to provide exempted postseason championship competition in nine sports in 2006-07. The Association recognizes outstanding athletic achievements of its student-athletes on a weekly, monthly and annual basis.
