ORANGE, Calif. – Chapman University sophomores Nicole Hayman and Lauren Kamiyama capped a great season by the women’s basketball team by earning All-Independent team honors, as named by the Association of Division III Independents this month. Hayman, a guard, earned first team honors for Chapman (23-6) after leading the team with 19.0 points per game and 61 three-pointers. The sophomore also ranked second on the team in rebounding with 4.7 per game and in free throw shooting (83.9 percent). She was among the top-40 in Division III in both scoring and free throw percentage. Hayman tied Chapman’s all-time single-game scoring record in January when she scored 38 against La Sierra University. Chapman’s starting point guard; Kamiyama was named to the third team, having averaged 12.3 points and 4.6 assists per game this season. Kamiyama, who led the team in free throw shooting, also ranked nationally in assists, three-point percentage and three-pointers per game. She was named to three all-tournament teams and scored 30 or more points in a game twice. The Association of Division III Independents consists of 25 Division III independent institutions that have joined together to recognize student-athletes at independent institutions, and to provide exempted postseason championship competition in nine sports in 2006-07. The Association recognizes outstanding athletic achievements of its student-athletes on a weekly, monthly and annual basis.
