ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University women’s basketball team won its second consecutive Division III Independents West Region Postseason Tournament with a 62-45 win over host Nebraska Wesleyan University on Saturday afternoon. The win was the Panthers’ 12th in a row and they appear headed for an eighth straight NCAA tournament bid. Selections will be announced Monday morning at 9 a.m. (EST) on the NCAA website (ncaasports.com). The Panthers also set a Chapman Division III record for most wins in a season (24) and earned the most victories by any team since the 1984-85 season when the Panthers finished 25-4 overall. Top-seeded Chapman (24-3) overwhelmed the host Prairie Wolves in the first half, taking a 37-20 lead into halftime. A tough Chapman defense allowed Nebraska Wesleyan (6-20) to shoot just 26.3 percent from the field in the first half. Junior G Nicole Hayman led all scorers with 22 points, including four three-pointers on her way to being named Tournament MVP. Sophomore G Linda Ly also reached double figures with 11 points and added four assists. Freshman G Christina Ly was also named to the All-Tournament team. Chapman is currently ranked No. 5 in the West Region according to the NCAA
