FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
ORANGE, Calif. – For the seventh straight year, the Chapman University women’s basketball team has been selected to participate in the NCAA Division III postseason tournament. And for the fifth time in that span, the Panthers will host the first round when they face the University of La Verne on Wednesday at the Harold Hutton Sports Center. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. Chapman was one of four Independent schools to earn a Pool ‘B’ at-large selection into the 63-team field. The winner of the Chapman-La Verne game will travel to Brownwood, Tex. to face No. 3 Howard Payne University (27-1) – the only team in the tournament with a first round bye. La Verne (19-6) earned an automatic berth into the tournament by winning the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) championship. The Panthers are currently riding a school-record 16-game winning streak after claiming the DIII Independents West Region title over the weekend. Chapman is led by sophomore G Nicole Hayman who is averaging 19.6 points per game and has 59 three-pointers. Sophomore G Lauren Kamiyama is also averaging 11.8 points and has 128 assists this season. The selection is the eighth in 11 years for the Panthers, who went as deep as the "Sweet 16" in 2001-02. Chapman swept a pair of games from La Verne during the regular season, including most recently a 68-65 win at home over the Leopards on Jan. 23. General admission tickets will be sold at the door for $6. Students, seniors and child (12 and under) tickets will be available for $3.
