FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE CHAPMAN MEN, WOMEN EARN NO. 1 SEEDS AT INDEPENDENT TOURNAMENTS ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University men's and women's basketball teams will both put double-digit winning streaks on the line when they play as top seeds in this weekend's Division III Independents West Region Postseason Tournaments. The women will host this year's four-team event at Hutton Center on Friday and Saturday nights, while the men will travel to Omaha, Neb. The Chapman women (20-5) just clinched their third 20-win season in four years under head coach Carol Jue and are riding a school record 14-game winning streak. The Panthers will face fourth-seeded Nebraska Wesleyan (4-21) on Friday at 7 p.m. No. 2 Colorado College (9-13) will face No. 3 U.C. Santa Cruz (10-15) at 5 p.m. Friday's losers and winners will face each other on Saturday at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m., respectively. The Panthers are led by junior G Nicole Hayman (19.2 ppg) and sophomore G Lauren Kamiyama (12.1 ppg, 4.8 apg), and are ranked No. 22 in Division III in three-point shooting. The Panthers' men's team (19-5) is knocking on the door of back-to-back 20-win seasons, currently with an 11-game winning streak. No. 1 Chapman will face No. 4 Colorado College (3-20) on Friday at 5 p.m (cst). No. 2 Nebraska Wesleyan (7-18) will host the event and face No. 3 U.C. Santa Cruz (4-21) at 7 p.m. The consolation and championship games will be played at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. on Saturday. Chapman defeated Nebraska Wesleyan 76-67 in last year's championship. Chapman's lineup features two of the school's top-three career points leaders in seniors Patrick Carney (15.3 ppg) and Josh Flynn-Brown (20.0 ppg). Flynn-Brown is trying to become the first Panther since 1994 to average over 20 points per game. ### |
