CHAPMAN GETS LUCKY NUMBER 13, DESPITE NOT BEING SHARP

ORANGE, Calif. – Despite appearing a tad rusty from a nine-day layoff in between games, the Chapman University women’s basketball team extended its winning streak to 13 games, setting a new school Division III record. The Panthers defeated visiting Colorado College 69-66 at the Hutton Sports Center on Friday night.

Chapman (19-5), which ranks No. 22 in Division III in three-point shooting, shot just 23 percent from beyond the arc (5-for-22) and trailed for nearly the entire first half. To the contrary, Colorado College (8-13) entered the game ranked No. 236 in Division III in three-point percentage, but drained 50 percent (8-for-16) of its three-point attempts, which helped the Tigers build a 36-32 halftime lead.

The Panthers rallied in the second half and the two teams were never separated by more than five points for the remainder of the game. Sophomore G Nicole Hayman scored 11 of her team-high 18 points in the second half for Chapman. Sophomore G Lauren Kamiyama scored 17 points and added five assists. Junior G Amelia Perez had a big night defensively, leading the Panthers with seven rebounds and eight steals.

Melanie Auguste led Colorado College with 18 points and had eight rebounds. Liz Kolbe made three three-pointers to finish with nine points and a team-high nine rebounds. The Tigers out-rebounded Chapman 47-29, but committed 33 turnovers in the game.
