FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

HAYMAN NAMED TO ESPN THE MAGAZINE ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT TEAM

ORANGE, Calif. – Chapman University women’s basketball star Nicole Hayman has been named to the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District VIII team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). It is the first such honor for Hayman, who currently holds a 3.98 grade-point average in Legal Studies. She will next go on a ballot for Academic All-America consideration.

Besides her success in the classroom, the junior guard has established herself as one of the all-time Chapman greats on the basketball court. Hayman currently leads the Panthers in scoring, with 15.8 points per game in helping Chapman to a 20-3 overall record this season. She is also averaging 3.7 rebounds and has made 33 three-pointers.

In just two seasons, Hayman could become the fastest women’s basketball player in school history to 1,000 points, needing just 85 to eclipse that milestone. She also holds (tied) the school record for points in a game with 38 points against La Sierra University in January 2007.

Chapman has had 27 players selected to the Academic All-District teams since 1996.

The ESPN the Magazine Academic All-America Teams program honors 816 male and female student-athletes annually who have succeeded at the highest level on the playing field and in the classroom. Individuals are selected through voting by CoSIDA, a 2,000 member organization consisting of sports public relations professionals for colleges and universities in the United States and Canada.

To be eligible, student-athletes must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director. Since the program’s inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 14,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA covering all NCAA championship sports. Chapman is a member of the District VIII College Division, which includes Division II, III and NAIA schools from throughout the Western United States.
