PANTHERS’ VICTORY OVER REDLANDS IS WORTH THE WAIT

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University women’s basketball team won its seventh consecutive game, defeating visiting University of Redlands 58-54 at Hutton Center on Tuesday night. The start of the game (scheduled for 5 p.m.) was delayed an hour and 15 minutes while the teams waited for the officials – who thought the game started at 7 p.m.

Chapman (19-3) trailed for most of the game, but rallied from a 44-37 deficit midway through the second half to take a two-point lead. Redlands rebuilt a four-point advantage with 2:30 to play, but the Panthers scored the game’s final eight points to secure their 11th win in 12 home games this season. The game could have been a preview of a postseason match up with the Panthers eyeing their eighth straight NCAA at-large berth, and the Bulldogs currently tied for first place in the SCIAC.

Junior G Nikki Hayman led all scorers with 18 points, including a pair of three-pointers. Sophomore G Linda Ly scored 14 points and went 4-for-4 from the free throw line down the stretch. Ly also added five of Chapman’s 11 steals on defense.

For Redlands (14-5), Meghan Yetman scored 11 and Laura Murphy had 10 points. Lindsey McFerran led all rebounders with 11 as the Bulldogs out-rebounded Chapman 34-28 in the game.
