FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University women’s volleyball team ended its regular season at home, the same way it started…and continued all season: with a victory. The Panthers, who dominated play on their home floor in 2007, swept visiting Pomona-Pitzer Colleges 30-26, 30-23, 30-23 at Hutton Center on Saturday night to finish the season with a 7-1 record at home. Chapman (16-10) now must patiently wait for its name to be called as an at-large (Independent) selection into the NCAA Division III tournament, which will be announced on Sunday. The Panthers are currently ranked No. 8 in the West Region. If Chapman is selected it would likely travel to Cal State East Bay for the first round of the playoffs. The Panthers finished strong in each of their three games against Pomona-Pitzer, including 8-1 runs to conclude both the second and third games which had been tied 22-22 before the Panthers pulled away. Senior OH Nikkie Powers celebrated ‘Senior Night’ by leading all hitters with a match-high 23 kills for Chapman. Junior MB Jill Felger added 16 kills in the match. Sophomore libero Linda Ly, who is already Chapman’s career leader in digs – a record she surpassed at the Trinity Tournament last weekend – added a team-high 22 digs. Ly also eclipsed her own school record with 607 digs this season and ranks in the top-25 nationally in digs per game. Game stats available online: |
