FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
ORANGE, Calif. – An out-of-state guest didn’t change the way the Chapman University volleyball team has been treating opponents at the Hutton Center this season. The Panthers extended their season-long winning streak to seven matches with a victory over visiting Millikin University (Ill.) 30-21, 28-30, 30-27, 30-19 on Saturday night. It was also Chapman’s sixth straight win at home where the Panthers remained unbeaten in 2007. A big reason for the Panthers’ winning streak has been the play of junior MB Jill Felger, who led Chapman once again with 20 kills. Felger has recorded 20 or more kills in three of the past five matches. Senior OH Nikkie Powers totaled 16 kills and added 18 digs for Chapman (13-7), as well. Freshman S Kat Kowalski earned 59 assists and sophomore libero Linda Ly recorded 31 digs for the Panthers. Chapman also served up 11 aces as a team, including a team-high five from sophomore OH Erin DeRycke. Millikin (17-13) was led by OH Rachel Cook, who equaled Felger with a match-high 20 kills. The Panthers will put their seven-match winning streak on the line when they welcome Division III’s No. 24-ranked Central College on Saturday in a rare morning matinee: 10 a.m. at Hutton Center.
