ORANGE, Calif. – Senior OH Nikkie Powers led all hitters with 23 kills as the Chapman University women’s volleyball team defeated visiting Hope International University 30-27, 24-30, 30-28, 31-29 at Hutton Center on Thursday night. In an evenly-played match by both teams, a couple of late-game Chapman rallies clinched the Panthers’ fourth straight win at home. Trailing 26-22 in Game 1, Chapman (7-7) went on an 8-1 run to win 30-27. Then in the decisive Game 4, the Panthers faced game-point, but rallied to score three consecutive points for a 31-29 win. Junior MB Jill Felger (18 kills) and sophomore OH Lyndsey Cargile (10 kills) also had big offensive nights for Chapman. Freshman setter Kat Kowalski set a career-high with 59 assists and sophomore libero Linda Ly tallied 31 digs. The Panthers snapped a three-match losing streak and improved to 4-0 at Hutton Center this season. Hope International (4-10) lost its eighth consecutive match. The Royals were led by Amanda Elliott’s 23 kills. Jillian Lane recorded 21 kills and 32 digs, as well.
