PANTHERS SET SCHOOL RECORD AT RELAYS
CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Chapman University women’s track and field foursome of Natalie Thune, Ashley Higby, Brianna Newsom and Michelle Kanda set a new school record in the 4 x 800 meter relay race at the Claremont Rossi Relays on Saturday. The team placed 15th in the event with a time of 10:50.88.
Some other highlights from the first three track and field meets of the season:
At Caltech Invitational (Feb. 11) Freshman Margo Ledig placed second in the high jump with a jump measuring 4 feet, 11 inches, while also placing third in her heat in the 100 meters with a time of 13.34. Sophomore Lauryn Classen took first in her head in the 100 meters with a 13.85 mark. The foursome of Classen, Newsom, Kanda and Thune placed second in the 4 x 400 meter relay.
At Pomona-Pitzer Invitational (Feb. 18) Chapman took 1-2 in the 800 meters with Thune capturing first place with a time of 2:32.36, followed closely by Kanda coming in at 2:32.65. Ledig had another strong showing in the 100 meters with a time of 13.69 and a fourth place finish.
At Claremont Rossi Relays (Feb. 25) Freshman Kathryn Butler set a personal record with a discus throw measuring 82 feet, 6 inches.
