FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
BELMONT, Calif. – The Chapman University women’s swim team seems to always perform well at the Pacific Coast Swimming Championships in Belmont each year. This year it was Aphrodite Daphnis and Alyson Loyd who stole the show for the Panthers, each breaking two school records at the weekend-long event. On Friday, Daphnis broke her own record in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:00.34, shaving a half-second off her previous time set last November. The junior then broke her own 200-yard backstroke record with a time of 2:12.23 on Saturday. Daphnis currently holds three school records, earning a share of the 50-yard freestyle record by tying Kati Wise’s mark on Feb. 1 with a time of 24.84. Not to be outdone, the freshman Loyd set new school records on Friday and Saturday as well. Loyd trimmed hundredths of seconds off of Wendy Martinovich’s times in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:11.12, and then again in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:33.59.
