FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Two seniors on the Panthers’ top-ranked baseball team: IF Kyle Redding and DH Stuart Hyman were selected to the All-District first team. Meanwhile, senior IF Catherine Hall and sophomore RHP Katie Finley were honored from Chapman’s regional-qualifying softball team. Redding and Hall were each named to the All-District team for the second time in their careers. Redding has batted .323 with 37 RBI this season and earned a Rawlings West Region Gold Glove award for his defensive play at second base. He has a 3.52 GPA in accounting. Hall was also recognized for her defense in 2008, earning the team’s Defensive Player of the Year award. She also was among the team’s leaders with a .345 average with four homers and 23 RBI and has a GPA of 3.72 as an English major. Hyman has hit .388 with six home runs and 31 RBI as the Panthers’ cleanup hitter all season. He also led Chapman with 17 doubles and had two 11-game hitting streaks. He has earned his degree in communications with a 3.56 GPA. The sophomore Finley earned the award for the first time in her career after posting a 10-5 mark and leading the Panthers with 120 strikeouts in just 89.1 innings. At one point this season, the right-hander won nine of 10 decisions and struck out 10 or more batters in a game four times this year. She is a public relations/advertising major with a 3.69 GPA. The ESPN the Magazine Academic All-America Teams program honors 816 male and female student-athletes annually who have succeeded at the highest level on the playing field and in the classroom. Individuals are selected through voting by CoSIDA, a 2,000 member organization consisting of sports public relations professionals for colleges and universities in the United States and Canada. To be eligible, student-athletes must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director. Since the program’s inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 14,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA covering all NCAA championship sports. Chapman is a member of the District VIII College Division, which includes Division II, III and NAIA schools from throughout the Western United States.
