NO. 8 CHAPMAN TAKES A PAIR FROM MENLO

ORANGE, Calif. –  The Chapman University softball team, ranked No. 8 in the latest NCAA Division III coaches poll, swept a pair of games from visiting Menlo College on Sunday, 9-1 and 15-3. The Panthers improved to 9-2 in their past 11 games and 22-7 at Hart Park this season.

Game 1: Chapman 9, Menlo 1
The Chapman (27-10) offense was consistent, if not efficient, scoring at least one run in each of its four at-bats, including three runs in the second inning on a three-run home run by sophomore OF Kathleen Ramseyer. It was her second homer of the year. Amanda Cambell, Melanie Villarroel and Kandy Francis had two hits apiece, while senior OF Sandra Burns drove in a pair for the Panthers.

Right-handers Maggie Wilder and Katie Finley combined to strikeout eight Oaks batters and limited Menlo to just three hits. Finley, a freshman, earned her first career victory with three solid innings in relief.

Game 2: Chapman 15, Menlo 3
The Panthers capitalized on seven walks, six wild pitches and four Menlo errors and scored a lucky 13 runs in the second inning en route to a 15-3 win. Sophomore OF Erin Dudzinksi was 2-for-3 with two runs, including a two-run home run. She extended her team-high hitting streak to 12 games. Ramseyer also had two hits and two RBI for Chapman, which posted double-digit runs in a game for the ninth time this season. Campbell reached base in each at-bat of the doubleheader including three walks and three runs in the second game.

Freshman RHP Vanessa Goncalves improved to 7-1 this season, scattering seven hits and striking out six in five innings.

Chapman will end the regular season in two weeks with a home doubleheader against No. 22 Redlands, currently in first place in the SCIAC.
