RED-HOT CHAPMAN PICKS UP TWO MORE VICTORIES

ORANGE, Calif. –  The Chapman University softball team improved to 14-2 in its past 16 games with a pair of ‘run-rule’ victories over Central College (Iowa) 9-0 and the University of Puget Sound (Wash.) 9-1 on Tuesday afternoon at Hart Park. The Panthers combined for 27 hits in the two games, while their pitching allowed just seven hits and one earned run.

Game 1: Chapman 9, Central 0
Junior All-America OF Erin Dudzinski led the Panthers’ offensive barrage with a 3-for-4 performance, including a two-run home run as part of a six-run fourth inning. Senior DP Amanda Campbell also had three hits including a pair of doubles and two runs scored. Senior IF Catherine Hall hit a two-run home run in the fourth inning.

Senior RHP Jennifer Winford threw a three-hit shutout – her fifth of the season – and improved to 10-3 overall. She was also 2-for-3 at the plate for Chapman (19-6).

Game 2: Chapman 9, Puget Sound 1
With two outs and nobody on base in the bottom of the fifth, the Panthers strung together five consecutive hits and plated the three runs needed to earn the ‘run rule’ victory. Hall hit a walk-off RBI single after sophomore IF Melanie Villarroel had singled in two runs prior.

Sophomore OF Vanessa Goncalves was 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored. Her single in the fifth got the two-out rally started. Sophomore IF Dani Brown also doubled in a pair of runs in the third inning.

Sophomore RHP Katie Finley scattered four hits and struck out nine batters to improve to 7-3 this season. The win was her sixth consecutive. Finley was also 2-for-3 with a pair of runs and an RBI.
