ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University softball team improved to 14-2 in its past 16 games with a pair of ‘run-rule’ victories over Central College (Iowa) 9-0 and the University of Puget Sound (Wash.) 9-1 on Tuesday afternoon at Hart Park. The Panthers combined for 27 hits in the two games, while their pitching allowed just seven hits and one earned run. Game 1: Chapman 9, Central 0 Senior RHP Jennifer Winford threw a three-hit shutout – her fifth of the season – and improved to 10-3 overall. She was also 2-for-3 at the plate for Chapman (19-6). Game 2: Chapman 9, Puget Sound 1 Sophomore OF Vanessa Goncalves was 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored. Her single in the fifth got the two-out rally started. Sophomore IF Dani Brown also doubled in a pair of runs in the third inning. Sophomore RHP Katie Finley scattered four hits and struck out nine batters to improve to 7-3 this season. The win was her sixth consecutive. Finley was also 2-for-3 with a pair of runs and an RBI.
