ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University softball team wrapped up its first month of play a little early, but much like it started. The Panthers slugged their way to another doubleheader sweep, this time over visiting Cal State East Bay 7-1 and 9-2 at Hart Park on Sunday afternoon. Chapman had 27 hits in the two games and improved to 8-2 this season. Game 1: Chapman 7, Cal State East Bay 1 The Panthers got a fine pitching performance from senior RHP Maggie Wilder who limited the Pioneers to just six hits and struck out five. Wilder improved to 4-1 this season with a 0.84 earned run average. For Cal State East Bay, 3B Katie DiStefano hit a solo home run in the seventh to breakup Wilder’s shutout bid. Game 2: Chapman 9, Cal State East Bay 2 Leadoff OF Stephanie Chu had a pair of hits, including a two-run triple for Cal State East Bay, which fell to 1-5 this season. Goncalves was solid in the circle for the Panthers, improving to 4-0 this year. The freshman scattered eight hits and two runs in her first complete game effort of the season. Chapman will be idle for two weeks before kicking off the Sun West Tournament with a tripleheader on March 4.
