PANTHERS RALLY TO WRAP UP SEASON WITH A WIN AT NATIONAL INVITATIONAL

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – The Chapman University men’s water polo team won its season finale, defeating Cal Maritime 9-8 in the fifth-place game at the National Invitational Tournament hosted by Cal Baptist University on Saturday. The Panthers rallied from a 7-5 fourth-quarter deficit to earn the victory and finish the season 11-19 overall.

With three goals in the finale, sophomore utility Alex Mulé broke his own school record with 104 goals this season. As a freshman, Mulé set the Chapman record with 101 goals in 2006. The sophomore scored 11 goals in three tournament games over the weekend and was named to the All-Tournament team. Mulé currently leads the nation in scoring.

Freshman 2-meter Riley Hayes also scored three goals, including two in the second half of the fifth-place game against Cal Maritime. Sophomore goalie Colin Gasper made 13 blocks in the cage to finish with 270 saves this season; just two shy of the school record.

The win also snapped an eight-game losing streak for the Panthers.
