FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
ORANGE, Calif. – Chapman University sophomore Alex Mulé set a new school with 11 goals in a single game in the Panthers’ season-opening 19-10 victory over visiting Penn State-Behrend on Friday night at the Orange High School pool. In fact, Mulé out-scored the entire Lions team to get Chapman out to a fast start to the 2007 season. Chapman then posted a 1-3 record at the Inland Empire Tournament, earning an important victory over Division III-ranked Whittier, but losing to top-ranked Redlands. Mulé led the Panthers with 16 goals in the four games, including six in the 11-9 win against the Poets. Freshman Vivan Suri scored three goals and added 10 assists in Chapman’s five games last weekend, as well. In what might have been the surprise of the weekend, Chapman place an extremely tight game against Division I Long Beach State for three quarters of play. The Panthers tied the score 5-5 with 2:05 left in the third quarter before the 49ers went on 12-1 run to close the game and prevailed 17-6. Mulé led Chapman with four goals in the game. The Panthers are currently 2-3 heading into the Cal Lutheran Tournament this weekend. Chapman entered the season ranked No. 7 in Division III by the Collegiate Water Polo Coaches Association.
