CHU, SURFAS TO TAKE ON OJAI TOURNAMENT FOR CHAPMAN

ORANGE, Calif. – Senior All-American Robert Chu and junior teammate Morgan Surfas are set to travel north to the 106th Annual Ojai Valley Tennis Tournament, where both will compete for singles and doubles bids into the NCAA championships.

The duo is hoping to improve on last year’s performances at the prestigious event. Surfas advanced to the field of 32 before running into eventual tournament champion Matt Seeberger of U.C. Santa Cruz in the second round. He did advance as far as the field of 16 with doubles partner Travis Kula. Meanwhile, Chu advanced through singles play to the field of 16 before losing a tiebreaker in the third set.

Chu enters tournament play with a record of 18-5 in singles play this year, including a second place finish at the West Regional tournament last fall, where he lost to Seeberger in the finals. The senior is currently ranked No. 4 in the West Region.

With his 12-6 singles record, Surfas travels to Ojai unranked. The pair will enter the tournament as a doubles team, having played just three matches this season together and posting a 2-1 record. Division III play begins Friday in Ojai.
