ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University men’s tennis team was defeated 7-2 Sunday by visiting Carnegie Mellon (Pa.) at the Chapman Tennis Courts. The loss was the third straight by the Panthers, who fell to 1-5 in dual matches this season. The Tartans swept the doubles matches and then won four of the six matches in singles play. No. 1 seeded senior Clifford Yook rallied from a first-game loss and pulled off his fifth consecutive singles victory, defeating Carnegie Mellon’s No. 1 seed, freshman Alex Nemerov 6-7, 6-4, 6-2. Yook, currently ranked No. 9 in the West Region, improved to 9-2 overall this year. Chapman’s other win came from the No. 6 singles seed, Scott Fong, who won his match 7-6, 7-5. The Panthers will face both Whittier and Colorado College in a doubleheader this upcoming Saturday at home beginning at 9 a.m.
