PANTHER MEN EARN FIRST WIN OF THE YEAR, SHUTOUT LA SIERRA

ORANGE, Calif. - The Chapman University men’s tennis team earned a lopsided 9-0 win over La Sierra University on Friday afternoon at the Chapman tennis courts. Friday’s shutout gave the Panthers their first victory of the season.

Chapman doubles began with an 8-6 win by the Panthers’ No. 1 seeded pair, Clifford Yook and Wes Nomi. Chapman’s No.1 seed Yook, then improved to 2-1 this spring with a 6-2, 6-0 singles victory over La Sierra’s No. 1 seed Alan Estareja. Yook is currently ranked No. 9 in the West Region in singles.

Meanwhile, Panthers’ No. 2 seed, junior Leland Buttle captured a 6-3, 6-3 win over Brandon McCowan to earn his first singles win of the year. Nomi also improved to 2-1 in singles play with a straight sets win in the No. 4-seed match, 6-1, 6-0.  

The Panthers travel to take on the nation’s No. 17-ranked University of Redlands on Saturday afternoon.
