FOUR PANTHERS EARN ALL-INDEPENDENT HONORS

ORANGE, Calif. – Four players on the Chapman University men’s soccer team have been honored by the Association of Division III Independents. Senior F Chris Marshall, who earned the award for the second time in his career, leads a quartet of Panthers who earned honorable mention on the All-Independent team. Senior GK Josh Kaplan-Lyman and sophomores Jeff Shah and Matt O’Leary were selected for the first time.

Marshall tied for the team lead with five goals this season, including one game-winning goal, despite missing six games due to an injury. He also led the team with 13 points and tied for the team lead with three assists. Marshall finished his career ranked 17th on Chapman’s all-time scoring with 43 points.

Fellow senior Kaplan-Lyman recorded 79 saves for the Panthers this year and had a .745 save percentage. He had a 1.66 GAA and recorded four shutouts in 13 games in the goal for Chapman.

Shah, a midfielder, and O’Leary, a defender, led the team in minutes played with 1,244 and 1,262 minutes, respectively. Each also recorded one assist. Shah joins his brother, Dan, who made the All-Independent team in 2005, as the only sibling duo at Chapman to be honored on that list.

The Association of Division III Independents consists of 21 Division III independent institutions that have joined together to recognize student-athletes at independent institutions, and to provide exempted postseason championship competition in nine sports in 2007-08. The Association recognizes outstanding athletic achievements of its student-athletes on a weekly, monthly and annual basis.
