FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
ORANGE, Calif. – Chapman University’s men’s soccer team finished the regular season with a 2-0 win over visiting Cal State East Bay at Wilson Field on Saturday night. The Panthers celebrated ‘Senior Night’ with a pair of goals from senior F Chris Marshall and a shutout for senior GK Josh Kaplan-Lyman. Chapman (5-9-2) finished the season with a winning record at home (4-3) in 2007 and avenged a 3-0 loss to East Bay one week earlier. Marshall scored the game-winner at 30:45 in the first half on a short pass from fellow senior MF Justin Shives directly in front of the net. Marshall added his second goal of the game – and team-leading fifth of the season – when he shot from 40 yards out and bent it just out of the reach of East Bay GK Kristopher Hall in the 68th minute. Marshall’s performance marked his first multi-goal game of the season and fifth of his career. He also vaulted into Chapman’s top-20 all-time scorers’ list, tied for 18th with 43 career points. Kaplan-Lyman earned his third shutout of the season and eighth of his career, making three saves in goal for Chapman.
