EARLY GOAL IS ENOUGH AS CHAPMAN SHUTS OUT LA SIERRA

ORANGE, Calif. –  The Chapman University men’s soccer team scored in the 11th minute of play and held on as the Panthers defeated visiting La Sierra University 1-0 at Wilson Field on Monday night. The win gave Chapman a .500 record at home this season (3-3) with one home game left.

Sophomore M Alex Sewitz powered his team-leading fifth goal of the season past La Sierra GK Stephen Uribe, who partially blocked the shot, but couldn’t stop it. The game-winner, at 11:17 in the game, was assisted off the right side by senior F Chris Marshall, his third assist of the year for Chapman (4-7-2). Sewitz was forced to leave the game in the 22nd minute with an ankle injury.

The Chapman defense, and senior GK Josh Kaplan-Lyman, did the rest of the work. The Panthers limited La Sierra (2-10-1) to just eight shots, while Kaplan-Lyman made two saves in earning his second shutout of the season. Chapman took 19 shots in all against Uribe, who made five saves.

Chapman has lost just two of its past seven games (3-2-2), including three shutouts.
