ORANGE, Calif. – Chapman University’s men’s soccer team overcame a halftime deficit and earned a double-overtime victory over visiting Hope International University at Wilson Field on Wednesday night. The win snapped the Royals – from neighboring Fullerton – five-game winning streak and improved the Panthers record at home to 2-2 this season. Freshman F Sterling Peterson scored the game-winner for Chapman (2-5) just 27 seconds into the second overtime period on a cross pass from freshman M Kyle Pidot. The goal was the first of Peterson’s career. Not only did Hope International (6-2) enter tonight’s game with a five-game winning streak, but the Royals’ defense had allowed just one goal during that stretch. The Panthers equaled that in the 52nd minute of play when freshman M Garret Archer tied the score at 1-1 when he picked up a loose ball in front of the goal and fired it past Royals goalkeeper Jacob Brown. Chapman sophomore D Matt O’Leary fed Archer with a backwards pass to assist on the score. Senior GK Josh Kaplan-Lyman made three saves for Chapman after allowing a late goal in the first half. Jose Andrade scored Hope’s goal in the 43rd minute.
