FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
ORANGE, Calif. – Chapman University men’s basketball head coach Mike Bokosky is on the brink of etching his name atop the school’s history books. Bokosky will tie for the all-time winningest basketball coach in Chapman history if the Panthers defeat the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges on Saturday, Dec. 8 at the Harold Hutton Sports Center. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. Bokosky, who in his 16th season as head coach at Chapman, earned his 257th win with the Panthers’ 55-53 victory over La Verne on Wednesday night. Basketball is Chapman’s oldest program, beginning in 1920. Ralph Welch, who coached the Panthers from 1925-42, has held the school’s wins record for 65 years with a mark of 258-87 overall. Welch’s 18 years came to an end when the basketball program was suspended from 1942-45 due of World War II. Bokosky, 52, took over the Panthers in 1992 – his first and only head coaching job – and has suffered just one losing season. Under him, Chapman has enjoyed 14 consecutive winning seasons, including three 20-win seasons. Bokosky is currently 257-129. Should Chapman win on Saturday, Bokosky could break the record when the Panthers travel to Thousand Oaks to take on Cal Lutheran on Dec. 15.
