CHAPMAN’S FLYNN-BROWN NAMED INDEPENDENTS STUDENT-ATHLETE OF THE YEAR

ORANGE, Calif. – Chapman University’s Josh Flynn-Brown has been named Male Student-Athlete of the Year by the Association of Division III Independents for the 2006-07 school year. Flynn-Brown graduated from Chapman in May with a degree in political science and became a first-time published author with his political commentary In Defense Of The President. He also became the first Panther since 1991 to average over 20 points per game in a season and was named Division III Independents men’s basketball Player of the Year in March.

Flynn-Brown led Chapman (21-5 overall) with 20.5 points per game and made 80 three-pointers during his senior season. He ranked in the top-35 in Division III in scoring, three-pointers and three-point percentage and set a Chapman (Division III) record for points in a single season. He scored 20 or more points in a game 16 times and helped Chapman to back-to-back West Region Independents Tournament titles. Flynn-Brown also finished his four-year career in February as one of just 13 players in school history with over 1,000 career points.

The 23-year old becomes the second Chapman student-athlete to earn annual top honors from the Association of Division III Independents since the organization began handing out awards in 2003. Chapman baseball player Alex Taylor earned the inaugural award.
