CHAPMAN MEN, WOMEN LOOK TO REPEAT AT INDPENDENTS CHAMPIONSHIPS

ORANGE, Calif. – Chapman University’s women’s and men’s basketball teams will play in the Division III Independents West Region Postseason Tournaments this weekend and are seeded No. 1 and No. 2, respectively. The Hutton Center will be the site of the men’s tournament Feb. 29-March 1 hosted by Chapman University. The women will open tournament play on Friday in Omaha, Neb. where Nebraska Wesleyan University will serve as host.

The Chapman men will make their bid for a third straight postseason tournament championship after back-to-back titles in 2006 and ’07. The No. 2-seeded Panthers will host No. 1 Nebraska Wesleyan, No. 3 Dallas (TX) and No. 4 U.C. Santa Cruz.

Chapman (18-7) is ranked No. 5 in Division III in defense, holding teams to just 58.4 points per game. The offensive spark has come from sophomore G Kyle Wood who leads the Panthers with 11.0 points per game. The Panthers have played Dallas once and U.C. Santa Cruz twice this season and are 3-0 against the field. Chapman defeated Nebraska Wesleyan 64-49 in the championship game last season.
