CHAPMAN BASKETBALL AMONG NATIONAL LEADERS

ORANGE, Calif. – Chapman University’s men’s and women’s basketball teams are currently riding lengthy winning streaks and this week have earned top-5 national rankings in separate statistical categories.

The Chapman men are currently ranked No. 3 in Division III in defense, giving up an average of 57.1 points per game. Defense has always been a priority for head coach Mike Bokosky, who broke the school’s all-time wins record earlier this year, but the team has never been ranked this high in team defense in Bokosky’s 17 years as head coach. The Panthers are 17-6 record with a nine-game winning streak and have hopes of a third straight Division III Independents Postseason Tournament championship. The tournament will be played at Hutton Sports Center on Feb. 29-Mar. 1.

Bokosky’s team is also ranked No. 9 in the nation in rebound margin with an 8.2 average. The Panthers are also ranked No. 25 in three-point shooting with a 40.2 percentage from beyond the arc.

Junior G Lauren Kamiyama is having one of her best seasons as a Panther, currently ranked No. 4 in the nation in free-throw percentage at 91.8, the best mark of her career. Kamiyama is an 85.6 percent career free throw shooter, which currently ranks as the best percentage in Chapman history. The junior guard has led the Panthers to a 20-3 record – including eight straight wins – and in search of their eighth straight NCAA playoff berth.
