FIVE SENIORS HONORED AS PANTHERS WIN SIXTH STRAIGHT

ORANGE, Calif. - Five Chapman University seniors couldn’t help but to smile on Saturday night as the men were honored prior to their last home game of the season. And their smiles never faded as each one played a role in the Panthers' defeat of visiting La Sierra University 82-41 at Hutton Center. It was Chapman's sixth straight win.

It was a momentous night for one senior in particular, Zach Wheatley, who entered the game with 999 career points. After scoring in the opening minutes of the game, the senior forward became just the second player in the school's Division III history to record 1,000 points and 500 rebounds. Wheatley, however, was just getting started. He finished the night with a double-double: 22 points, a game-high of 14 rebounds, four assists and three steals.

Chapman got an early led in the first half and kept La Sierra at a distance for the remainder of the game. Junior guard Patrick Carney scored a game-high of 24 points.

La Sierra (5-15) was led by Daunell Curry who scored nine points and had 5 steals.

Chapman improved to 18-7 and will conclude the regular season at U.C. Santa Cruz’s Division III Independents tournament Feb. 24-25. As usual, the Panthers will await Division III playoff announcements on Feb. 26 with their chances remaining 'on the bubble' for consideration. Chapman has never advanced to the NCAA Division III tournament.
