PANTHERS SHOOT ‘LIGHTS OUT’ IN WIN OVER LA SIERRA

ORANGE, Calif. – One of the popular clichés in sports came to life on Thursday night, when the Chapman University men’s basketball team literally shot the lights out in its 83-56 win over La Sierra University at Hutton Center. One of the primary lights over the south end of the gym burned out late in the second half as the Panthers cruised to their fourth win in six home games this year.

Chapman (9-5), in fact, drained eight three-pointers in the game, including four from senior G Josh Flynn-Brown who scored 18 points in the game. Flynn-Brown also had a season-high five assists. Senior G Patrick Carney led all scorers with 20 points and added eight rebounds. The Panthers built a 20-point lead by halftime and maintained a double-digit lead throughout the entire second half.

For La Sierra (5-11), Ryan White earned a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds, while teammate Leon Flaherty led the Golden Eagles with 16 points. Flaherty just missed his own double-double with nine rebounds.

The Panthers will play eight of their final 11 games on the road beginning Jan. 19-20 when they will travel to Dallas, Texas to play in an Independents Tournament hosted by the University of Dallas.
