CHAPMAN BEGINS SEARCH FOR NEW FOOTBALL COACH ON MONDAY

ORANGE, Calif. – A search committee formed by Chapman University Director of Athletics David Currey will meet Monday to begin the process of hiring just the second head football coach since the institution revived its football program in 1994. The job was vacated in February with the announcement that Ken Visser was retiring at the end of the current school year.

Earlier this month, Chapman officially opened up the position and Currey says he has already received a great amount of interest from coaches from all over the country.

“They’ve ranged from high school head coaches to junior college coaches to current Division III coaches,” said Currey, who could not speculate on when the committee hopes to begin interviewing candidates. “We’ll meet next week and start filtering through the resumes we’ve received.” He hopes to have a head coach in place by May 1.

Currey believes that familiarity with NCAA Division III and a commitment to the Chapman student-athlete will be key ingredients in finding the next head coach of his football program. Head coaching experience is strongly desired, but not a must. The new coach will not only usher in a new coaching era at Chapman, but open the brand new Wilson Field on campus next fall.

Interested applicants may still apply through the Chapman University website: http://web.chapman.edu/hr/joblisting/
