FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
ORANGE, Calif. – Graduated Chapman catcher John Alexander had his professional baseball career in Switzerland cut short last week when the Atlanta Braves contacted him and offered him a pro contract to play in their minor league system. Alexander becomes the second Chapman player this summer to sign a contract with a Major League organization after right-hander Kyle Johnson was drafted and signed by the New York Mets. Alexander reported to the Gulf Coast League where he will be a backup catcher with the Braves rookie league team in Kissimmee, Florida. It is the same league where Johnson is currently pitching for the Mets. The 6 ft., 3 in. Alexander led the Panthers in RBI (38) and batted .382 in his senior season for the Panthers in helping Chapman to a third place finish at the NCAA Division III World Series in May. He had been playing for the Therwil Flyers of the Swiss League.
