ORANGE, Calif. – Chapman University pitcher Devin Drag was named NCAA Division III West Region Pitcher of the Year by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association for 2006. The junior right-hander finished second in the voting for National Pitcher of the Year after he led all of Division III in earned run average. Drag completed the season 10-2 with a 0.82 ERA in 88 innings as both a starter and reliever. He also ranked in the top-five in the nation in saves with eight. The junior was named first team ABCA All-America and first team All-West Region after a year in which he didn’t allow an earned run until his 43rd inning. Drag also recorded 30.1 consecutive scoreless innings during the season, ranking second in school history. Opponents batted just .150 against him while throwing six complete games and two shutouts, including blanking Wheaton (Mass.) at the Division III World Series last month. Chapman captured third place at the championships after winning its second consecutive West Region title.
