FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
GRAND CHUTE, Wis. – Chapman University pitchers Buddy Klovstad and Devin Drag were both named to the Rawlings/ABCA All-America first team at the NCAA Division III championships banquet on Thursday night. The Panthers’ two right-handers were among the top four pitchers in Division III in 2006, as voted on by the coaches. Klovstad, who followed the announcement with his school record-breaking 28th career victory in Game 1 of the World Series on Friday, has gone 13-1 this season – the nation’s wins leader – with a 2.44 ERA in 2006. Earlier this week, the senior was named West Region Pitcher of the Year for the second time. He was a first team All-America selection in 2005, as well. He is 28-2 over the past three seasons, including 18 consecutive victories from April 2004 to March 2006. The honor is the first for the junior Drag, who leads all of Division III with a 0.80 ERA in over 78 innings. Drag has been Chapman’s all-purpose right-hander with a 9-1 record and leads the team with five complete games and eight saves. He also has 79 strikeouts and opponents have batted just .144 against him in 2006. Chapman entered this weekend’s Division III championships ranked fourth in NCAA Division III in team earned run average, and lowered that mark in Friday’s win to 2.56.
