KLOVSTAD HEADLINES ALL-WEST REGION TEAM FOR SECOND YEAR IN A ROW

ORANGE, Calif. – Senior pitcher Buddy Klovstad has earned All-West Region baseball first team honors and was named the West Region Pitcher of the Year for the second straight year. The right-hander is joined by fellow right-hander Devin Drag and outfielder Brian Brubaker on the first team. Utilityman Tyler Dean was named to the third team.

Klovstad becomes the first Panther to earn Pitcher of the Year honors in back-to-back seasons. He currently has a 12-1 record and 2.48 ERA in over 116 innings. Klovstad set a school record with 18 consecutive victories from April 2004 to March 2006 and tied Chapman’s career record for victories (27-3) last weekend at the NCAA Division III West Region championships.

The junior Drag has been Chapman’s all-purpose arm this season and in doing so, has led the nation in ERA. Drag, who began the season as the team’s closer and has eight saves, joined the starting rotation midseason and is 9-1 with a 0.80 ERA in 78 innings. Meanwhile, Brubaker has quietly put together one of the best offensive seasons Chapman has seen in 10 years, batting .423 with five homers, 35 RBI and 11 stolen bases.

Dean earned All-Region honors for the first time in his career, batting .321 with 33 RBI and leads the team with six homers. The junior gained nationwide notoriety in February when he became just the second player ever (college or professional) to hit for the cycle in back-to-back games.

Chapman won its second consecutive West Region championship last weekend.
